ARTADDICTION: La persona detrás de la adicción y la recuperación

Desde tiempos remotos el ser humano ha buscado refugio en el arte para plasmar sus emociones. Primero de forma rústica, en cavernas y muros, más tarde y ya con el conocimiento de algunas técnicas, diversos artistas han deslumbrado al mundo con creaciones que hacen vibrar el alma.

Si bien muchos creen que el arte es sólo para quienes tienen el don, la realidad muestra que el arte puede ser practicado por cualquier persona. Tan sólo basta tener imaginación y ganas de mostrar lo que uno siente en el interior.

El concurso ARTADDICTION invita a todas las personas mayores de 16 años a presentar trabajos de arte en las disciplinas de pintura (cualquier técnica), dibujo, fotografía, diseño gráfico y collage que exploren el tema de la adicción y la recuperación. En particular, los jueces están interesados en cuan efectivo, claro y expresivo es el trabajo de los participantes al tratar el asunto de la persona detrás de la adicción.

Los trabajos de arte serán aceptados hasta las 5 de la tarde del 12 de junio de 2009. Las obras seleccionadas serán expuestas en el Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts y serán parte del “Art Loop” de Wilmington el día viernes 10 de Julio de 5pm – 9pm.  Los tres primeros finalistas recibirán premios monetarios.

Descubriendo el alma

La novedosa técnica llamada arte-terapia consiste en el uso de las artes visuales con fines terapéuticos. Este concurso llama a la comunidad en general a utilizar el arte-terapia para explorar y crear consciencia sobre los efectos de la adicción.

¿Nos podemos beneficiar de esta terapia aunque no sepamos pintar o dibujar? Por supuesto que sí. Cuando se tiene algo que decir y se quiere materializar de manera artística, no existen topes o limites para ello.  Cada color, sombra, relieve lleva implícita una respuesta ayuda a entender a la persona detrás de la adicción.

Instrucciones para participar

Since the beginning of time, humans have sought solace in art as a means of expressing their emotions.  Initially, primitive art was found in caves and murals, and later with the awareness of other techniques, various artists have illuminated the world with creations that resonate with the human spirit.

There are many that argue that art is reserved for those that have the talent, but reality tells us that art can be practiced by any person.  All you need is imagination and the desire to share what you feel inside.

ARTADDICTION welcomes everyone, 16 years old and above, to present art work in painting (all techniques), drawing, photography, graphic design and collage that explores the theme of addiction and recovery.  Jurors for the event are particularly interested in seeing how effective, clear and expressive the work is in depicting the human side of addiction.

Works of art will be accepted until 5 pm on June 12, 2009.  Selected art pieces will be on exhibit at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts and will be part of the “Art Loop” of Wilmington on Friday, July 10 from 5:00 – 9:00 pm.  The top three finalists will receive cash prizes.

Unveiling the soul

The innovative technique of art therapy consists of using the visual arts as a means of therapy.

This contest asks the community to use art therapy as a means create awareness of the effects of addiction.

Can we benefit from this therapy even though we do not know how to paint or draw?  Of course. When you have something to express artistically, there are no limits.  Every color, shadow, contains an implicit message that reveals the human side of addiction.

Art Submission Guidelines

Entry Requirements: Participants may submit up to three artworks for consideration. The art peace(s) should be submitted with:

*Artist statement: Participants should provide a brief statement (100 – 200 words) explaining the meaning of their artwork

Exclusions: The exhibition organizers reserve the right to exclude art that does not address the exhibition’s theme of addiction and recovery, and/or is in any way offensive.
