Siendo como soy, un recién llegado con sólo 7 años viviendo en Delaware  no soy la persona más adecuada para contar la historia de la comunidad hispana en nuestro estado.

Siendo como soy, un recién llegado con sólo 7 años viviendo en Delaware  no soy la persona más adecuada para contar la historia de la comunidad hispana en nuestro estado; y como hay mucho por hacer en ese sentido, hemos querido elaborar un pequeño esbozo de lo que es una historia muy rica y valiosa. Es como una pincelada muy suave dentro de un cuadro muy colorido.

Muy bien entendemos las limitaciones de espacio y tiempo que implican un periódico de la naturaleza del que publicamos, por ello, en esta edición sólo nos acercamos a los inicios de la historia del centro comunitario hispano más importante de nuestro estado, como una forma de celebración de los 40 años de esfuerzo de cientos de voluntarios que han entregado su tiempo y esfuerzo sin otra retribución que ver su comunidad cada día mejor.

Es inmensa la lista de nombres que llenan la historia de este centro y muchos no están plasmados en estas páginas, nombres de personas importantes que hicieron realidad el sueño de cinco o seis jóvenes inquietos que invirtieron tiempo, empeño e ideas, que gastaron las suelas de sus zapatos recorriendo calles y avenidas, subiendo y bajando escaleras en búsqueda del apoyo económico y social para levantar el proyecto que hoy les llena de legítimo orgullo.

Es por ello que buscamos  en esta edición especial  rendir homenaje a ese grupo anónimo y quizás olvidado de jóvenes a quienes consideramos los verdaderos protagonistas de este aniversario, y quizás sembrar la semilla de la importancia de preservar nuestra historia para las generaciones venideras.

Porque creemos que el ejemplo del pasado es lo que mantiene viva la llama solidaria de esta gran familia, es que hemos dedicado esta edición a recopilar un poco de esos 40 años de trabajo incansable, y poner a disposición de todos los que sentimos al centro latino como una mano amiga un poco de esos recuerdos de años y gente que han pasado por esos corredores. Igualmente para usted, que lee estas líneas, porque también usted forma parte de una historia viva que quizás algún día sea contada, no sólo en la mecedora de su sala cuando está rodeado de sus nietos, sino en los libros que los hijos de sus hijos lean en la escuela.

Being the way that I am, one that just has been living in Delaware for just 7 years, I am probably not the right person to recount the history of the Hispanic community in our state.

Being the way that I am, one that just has been living in Delaware for just 7 years, I am probably not the right person to recount the history of the Hispanic community in our state; and because there is so much to do when it comes to it, we wanted to outline what it is a history that is rich and valuable. Is like a very soft brush stroke inside of a very colorful picture.

We very well understand the limitations of space and time that involves a newspaper of the nature that we publicize, and that is why in this edition we only come close to the beginnings of the history of the most important Hispanic Community Center in our state as a way to celebrate 40 years of the hundreds of efforts of volunteers who have given their time and endeavor with no other retribution than to see its community get better with each passing day.

An immense list of names fill the history of The Center and many more that are not plastered in these pages, names of important people that made the reality of a dream of five or six restless young people who invested time, ideas and determination that used up the soles of their shoes while walking the streets and avenues, going up and down the stairs in search of more financial and social support to elevate this project that today fills with legitimate pride.

This is why we have searched on this special edition to render homage to this anonymous group and maybe forgetting some other young people who we truly consider the protagonists of this anniversary and maybe plant the seed of the importance of preserving our history for generations to come. 

Because we think that with the examples from the past is what keeps alive the fire of solidarity of that great family, that is why we have dedicate this edition to compile some of these 40 years of tireless work, and to put at your disposition the sentiments to The Latin Center a friendly hand to a little of those years of memories and people that have passed through those corridors. At the same time when you read these lines, because you are also part of a live history and maybe some day, it will be told not only in the rocking chair of your living room when you are surrounded by grandchildren but when is in the books that the children of your children will read in school.
