¿Víctima del Dr. Bradley?

La gravedad y alcance de los hechos atribuidos al Dr. Earl Bradley, un pediatra de Lewes, Delaware, que incluyen la violación de nueve menores de edad y el abuso de, al menos, otros cien, algunos de ellos filmados por él mismo, han causado pánico en la familias del sur del estado.

El caso reviste tal gravedad, que el Fiscal General Beu Biden renunció a la posibilidad de ser candidato a Senador por Delaware (cargo que su padre ocupó por 30 años) para dedicarse a investigar y aclarar el caso, considerado el más grave de abuso infantil en la historia de Delaware.

Muchos reportes de prensa se han escrito, y por ellos sabemos que el 16 de diciembre, cuando la policía, con una orden judicial, investigó la oficina de Bradley, encontró evidencias en video de que violó o explotó sexualmente a unos 100 pacientes durante un período de 10 años. Algunas de sus víctimas tenían solo 3 meses de edad. El doctor fue arrestado el 18 de diciembre pasado. 

Muchas de sus víctimas provienen de familias de madres solteras o de bajos ingresos, según un reporte publicado por el Cape Gazette que incluso menciona el hecho de que el Dr. Bradley podría haber prestado servicios gratuitos a esos pacientes y, por ende, estarían lejos de quejarse o dejar de llevar sus hijos a consulta.

Aparte de todos los detalles escabrosos de este horrible caso de pedofilia, lo que importa en este momento es, tanto acumular evidencias en su contra, como ayudar a los niños y sus familias que fueron víctimas de sus acciones.

El 21 de enero se supo que el Fiscal General del estado introdujo una demanda contra el pediatra en la Corte Superior del Condado de Sussex. Esta medida, contemplada en la leyes del estado, le permite al fiscal embargar los bienes del acusado con el fin de “preservar sus bienes y poderlos decomisar para sus víctimas,” dijo el fiscal Biden.

Diferentes organizaciones están prestando ayuda a las posibles víctimas del Dr. Bradley. Entre éstas, la policía del estado creó una página web (www.dsp.delaware.gov) con el fin de responder las preguntas más frecuentes en relación con este caso. El Fiscal General de Delaware también habilitó una oficina en Lewes, ubicada en la calle 4 y Savannah Road, para recibir las denuncias y prestar ayuda a las víctimas potenciales. La Sra. Patricia Dailey, a cargo de esta oficina en Lewes, instó a todas las familias que llevaron a sus hijos al Dr. Bradley a llevar fotografías que puedan ayudar a identificar a posibles víctimas.

En un artículo escrito por Kevin Spence, se informa, que el Consejo de Justicia Criminal de Delaware (CJC por sus siglas en inglés) dispuso el 11 de enero, de 145.000 dólares para ayudar a los pacientes del Dr. Bradley, más de un tercio de ese dinero estará destinado a la comunidad hispana, sin duda la más vulnerable a las prácticas indecentes del doctor acusado de pedofilia.

A este respecto la secretaria de niños y familias, informó que estos fondos no están completamente disponibles hasta la próxima semana. “En la comunidad hispana hemos tomado los siguientes pasos,” explica la oficina de prensa de niños y familias, “estamos trabajando con la Esperanza para que sirva como el principal proveedor de servicios de consejería y coordinador de grupos de apoyo para las comunidades. La Esperanza tendrá charlas semanales en la comunidad y contactará a todos los medios de comunicación en español para difundir esta información. El Departamento de Niños y Familias contrató recientemente a Maureen Taylor como coordinadora a tiempo completo en Sussex, para ayudar a poner en funcionamiento un plan de respuesta.”

La Directora Ejecutiva de La Esperanza, por su parte explicó que cuentan con los servicios de Rosemary Martinez para ayudar a las víctimas y de Nidda Biggs como consejera bilingüe.

Are You One of Dr. Bradley’s Victims?

The severity of the offences committed by Earl Bradley, a pediatrician in Lewis, DE, include the rape of nine minors and the abuse of at least another hundred (some of them filmed by the latter.) These have caused panic throughout families south  of the state.

The offense is of such degree, that the Delaware Attorney General, Beu Biden, gave up the possibility of becoming a candidate for the state senate (position that his father occupied for 30 years) to dedicate all of his time to the investigation of, what is considered, Delaware’s worst child abuse case.

Many news reports have been published about the case and from these we know that, on December 16^th, the police with a warrant searched Dr. Bradley’s office and found video evidence of the rape or sexual abuse of some 100 patients, during a 10-year span. Some of the victims were only 3 months old. Dr. Bradley was arrested on December 18^th.

According to the Cape Gazette, many of his victims were children of single mothers or low income families; and therefore he could have offered free services to these victims. Because of this, parents were less likely to make complaints or refrain from taking their kids to their appointments. Aside from all these lurid details of this horrible case of pedophilia, what matters most at this point, is to gather as much evidence as possible against the doctor and help all the victims and their families.

On January 21^st, it was known that the Attorney General of the state filed a civil racketeering lawsuit against Pediatrician Earl Bradley in Sussex County Superior Court. This measure, as state laws indicate, allows the attorney general to put a lien against and forfeit the defendant’s assets in order to “preserve his assets, and ultimately seize them for the victims” said attorney Biden.

Different organizations are offering their help to the victims of Dr. Bradley, among them, the state police created an internet site (www.dsp.delaware.gov) with the goal of answering the most frequent questions related to this case; once on the home page, click on newsroom and on the right, click on “F.A.Q Reference to the Dr. Bradley Case” (published in Spanish in this issue).

The Attorney General of the state of Delaware has opened an office in Lewis in order to receive any new reports and to help potential victims; it is located on 4^th street and Savannah Road. Mrs. Patricia Daily, who is in charge of this office, explained that it is essential that all families that took their children to Dr. Bradley bring pictures in order to identify possible victims.

Kevin Spence informed in an article, that the Criminal Justice Council (CJC) made about $145,000 in funds available for services for alleged Bradley victims; more than one third of this money is aimed to the Hispanic community which, without a doubt, was more vulnerable to the obscene practices of this pediatrician, allegedly accused of pedophilia. The CJC funds have not become fully available, it is anticipated that beginning next week, there will be availability to draw down on these funds. “In the Latino/Hispanic communities we have taken the following steps: we are currently working with La Esperanza to serve as the primary responder for counseling and the support group coordinator for the communities. La Esperanza will staff weekly talks in the community and contact all Spanish speaking media in Sussex to help spread the word. The Children’s Department has also recently hired a full-time coordinator, Maureen Taylor, in Sussex to help put the response plan into place.” 

The Executive Director of La Esperanza explained that they rely on Rosemary Martinez to help victims and of Nidda Biggs as a bilingual counselor.
