La 80ava. Reunion anual de la Academia de Medicina de Delaware tuvo lugar el viernes 5 de marzo de 6 a 10 pm en el Centro de Educación Médica Ammon de Christiana Care.
El orador invitado Michael J. Kussman, M.D., MS, MACP, Brigadier General, Medical Corps, United States Army (Retirado) habló sobre la reforma de la ley de salud pública y lo que podemos aprender de la operación de la administración de veteranos que él ha dirigido durante la última administración. La administración de veteranos es el segundo departamento más grande después del departamento de defensa. Con un presupuesto total para el 2009 de 87.6 billones, la administración de veteranos da empelo a cerca de 280.000 personas en instalaciones a través de los Estados Unidos y está proyectado para prestar servicios de salud amas de 23 millones de pacientes en el 2010.
El Dr. Barry S. Kayne, anunció que el Dr.. Leslie W. Whitney fue el ganador del premio del Presidente 2010. El Dr. Whitney es una respetado miembro de la comunidad médica, renombrado por su trabajo el al junta del tumor (el cual está involucrado en el Helen F. Graham Cancer Center) y con la creación del banco de Sangre de Delaware. El Dr. Whitney fue también Vice Presidente de Asuntos académicos del sistema de salud de Christiana Care.
Se hicieron reconocimientos especiales durante la noche, incluyendo un reconocimiento especial al programa “Corazón Verdadero de Delaware” pro el director ejecutivo de la Academia Timothy Gibbs. El Programa Corazón Verdadero da educación y entrenamiento para mejorar los procesos clínicos para la prevención, evaluación y tratamiento de enfermedades cardiovasculares para mujeres en nuestro estado. The 80th Annual Meeting of the Delaware Academy of Medicine took place on Friday, March 5, from 6-10 p.m., at the John H. Ammon Medical Education Center.
Keynote speaker Michael J. Kussman, M.D., MS, MACP, Brigadier General, Medical Corps, United States Army (Retired) spoke about health care reform and what we can learn from the operation of the Veterans Administration that he led during the last administration. The Veterans Administration is the United States government’s second largest department after the Department of Defense. With a total 2009 budget of about 87.6 Billion, the Veterans Administration employees nearly 280,000 people in facilities across the US and is projected to provide care to over 23 Million patients in 2010.
Dr. Barry S. Kayne announced that Dr. Leslie W. Whitney was the recipient of the 2010 President's Award. Dr. Whitney is a respected member of the physician community, noted for his involvement in the Tumor Board (which evolved into the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center), and with the formation of the Blood Bank of Delaware. Dr. Whitney was also the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Research for Christiana Care Health System.
Special recognitions were made throughout the evening, including special recognition of The Heart Truth Delaware program by Academy Executive Director, Timothy Gibbs. The Heart Truth Delaware program provides education and training to improve clinical processes for the prevention, assessment, and treatment of cardiovascular disease for women in our state. Special guests from Christiana Care Health System included Robert J. Laskowki, M.D President & CEO and Rosa M. Colon-Kolacko, Ph.D Vice President of Systems Learning, as well as Mark Meister, Executive Director of the Medical Society of Delaware.
